Saturday, September 14.
After transporting our luggage to the hotel, we took a day to ride up the Atlantic coast in Cape Town.
An unexpected side trip on our way back to the hotel was missing a turn and ending up in the settlement area of Mitchell's Plain on market day.
Street after street of houses built of scrap metal, scrap wood, covered with plastic or tarps, much like the sets in the movie District 9, filmed in Soweto. People everywhere, cars in stages of repair or disrepair or being repaired, barbeques cooking on the side of the road, everyone walking or selling something, people and cars wandering in and off the streets.
Pretty angst provoking, especially for a carfull of whites intruding on their space.
Tomorrow, we leave for the airport at 5:45 am for our 'Big Five' animal safari at Thornybush.
