Street markets and Picasso, March 21

We walked along Rue Mouffetard today, enjoying the blocks long market. All kinds of vegetables, fish, meats, breads, pastries, chocolates and more, beautifully displayed. We bought a few things and slipped into a park area near a church to sit on a bench and enjoy.
The church turned out to be St. Medard, the church where in Les Miserables, Jean Valjean accidentally encounters Javert.
It has more history in reality: a temple of labor during the Revolution; houses a painting of St. Genevieve erroneously attributed to Watteau; and rumors of miraculous cures at the tomb of a certain deacon. Also, built in 1773, the majority of the cost of construction was financed by fines on Protestants.
On to the Picasso Museum. Not on my priority list, but highly recommended by our goddaughter. The museum is housed in a building constructed 1656 - 1660 for the person responsible for collecting the salt tax. Purchased in 1964 by the city and recently completely and beautifully renovated for the Picasso museum - opened in October 2014.
A fine job of presenting an overview of his work - the many different moods and styles. But still not my favorite.
