We had read that the Marmottan Monet Museum was very nice. After a long Metro ride and stroll through a lovely park we arrive at another home turned into a museum.
This one, however, is poorly laid out and difficult to navigate - especially when a bad cold has you in less than a cheery, inquisitive mood. After wandering around for a while, finally ask a guard "Ou les Monets?" "En le basement!" he answers as if talking to a moron.
The entrance to the basement eludes us but finally we find a small stairway in the side of the gift shop. Voila. Apparently, they have excavated this huge space beneath the house for the Monet collection including where it all began: "Impression Sunrise." No photos allowed.
At one end of the basement exhibit we come across a wide stairway we never saw upstairs. Started up it to find out, but are shooed back down by another friendly guard. One way traffic only.
Back outside, it's a beautiful Sunday afternoon, and the park is full of families enjoying it. Bike riding, soccer balls, and strolling with babies.
There's a small merry-go-round and we notice the children are handed foot long sticks as they mount. Not until the ride begins (and the operator is pushing the ride as he walks around - completely manual) do we see that the children use the sticks to catch a brass rings.
Always heard about this, never seen it.
