A slow start to Tuesday, with rain and gusty winds (bumping the gale status), had us taking our time getting ready to head to the marina for our sailing adventure.
Around noon, rain ended, we were unloading and preparing to shove off, motoring out into the still brisk winds and waves. Sails went up and we sailed east in front of westerly winds.
As we moved out into the archipelago, the waves were higher and we began to generate some spray from the bow. After several mistings, a substantial one thoroughly wet Ulla-Britt at the wheel and got me pretty good sitting in the cockpit.
Finally rounded the tip of our island destination and tied up. A number of the islands are managed by a group who maintains nice privys and removes garbage from the bins they provide.
Ate our late lunch on the boat then moved ashore to admire the view. Later, a fika at the nicely placed picnic table. Then we got things ready for a grill - cooked dinner. Meanwhile, the wind is calming.
After dinner, watched the setting sun, then to the boat for bedtime. We are in the rear cabin and while headroom is in short supply, we're cozy and comfortable.
About 3 am, I'm awakened by rain overhead. We were expecting clear skies so this will probably change our plans. The wind shifts and breakfast prep is interrupted by the need to move to another mooring.
Thankfully suited up in waterproof rainwear, we round the island to the new location. Then back to breakfast - hot tea and coffee very appreciated.
Later, in a mix of clouds and sunshine, we set sail back to port. Had the weather cooperated, we would been out for a second night, but more rain is predicted.
Stopping at the dock during a clear spell, the waste tanks are pumped, water tank refilled and diesel tank topped off. Then with rain heading towards us again, unload quickly and head the car towards home and pizza.
