With the promise of rain, this was a day to stay close to home. Everyone was involved with laundry, exercise, errands, etc.
We walked to the nearby train station with Hugo to meet Helga arriving a little after 2 from her home on the north side of Stockholm.
From the station we walked to the church where Erik is working. The church is subsidizing a place for locals to socialize with a fika. Erik and the others prepare the food and drinks which are sold for nominal prices. We've been twice and it seems to be a hit.
After our fika, we walked back to Ulla-Brit's house with Helga. The afternoon was spent on the deck in good conversation, looking at photos and keeping an eye out for rain.
We also learned about the tradition at Erik's university in Lulea of providing guides from each discipline to shepherd incoming students. But they remain anonymous, wearing overalls decorated with patches, sunglasses and hats. Erik modeled his overalls for us.
Gunnar, Ulla-Brit's brother, arrived around 6. World traveler, diving instructor in Egypt in winter and an American car aficionado.
We enjoyed a wonderful dinner inside as the rain returned.
Tomorrow a visit to Uppsala, former capital of the Viking kingdom with 9 large burial mounds, home of Sweden's first university (famous students include Linnaeus and Celsius), a large cathedral with the tomb of Gustav Vasa, and the Silver Bible.
